Abstract
Tan Spot and Spot Blotch diseases with the causal agent of Pyrenophora tritici-repentis and Bipolaris sorokiniana respectively are among the most important diseases of wheat leaf spot that are economically damaging across the world. In this study, the resistance of a number of lines of International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center was evaluated in the two northern provinces of the country in field conditions. In Baikola station of Mazandaran 19 lines were susceptible to Tan Spot. Other lines showed various degrees of resistance to Tan Spot. Regarding the Spot Blotch, except lines number 5, 18, 25, 28 and 36, with Moderately Susceptible (MS) reaction to the infection, the rest of the lines were resistant. In Gharakheil station of Mazandaran province, 14 lines showed MS and S reaction to Tan Spot. While, except for line number 28 with MS reaction, other lines were resistance to Spot Blotch. In the Gorgan (Araghimahaleh) station of Golestan province, 7 lines including 1, 5, 10, 12, 17, 18 and 47, were susceptibile to Tan Spot (MS), while all wheat lines showed various degrees of resistance to Spot Blotch. Among 50 lines investigated in this study, 24 lines including 2, 9, 11, 13, 14, 15, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, 31, 34, 35, 37, 38 , 40, 42, 43, 46, 48 and 49 showed resistance in the three evaluated regions in Mazandaran and Golestan provinces, which are recommended to the breeders for further studies in breeding programs.
